Lever machine pull video

Postby cannonfodder on Thu Jul 20, 2006 10:16 pm

Pulled a shot on my Factory and decided to video it. Not the best shot I have ever pulled but you get the idea. Had some crema bubbles in the final product but this is the first shot I have pulled in a month on this machine.

Here is another video, close up on the cup. Same procedure as the above video but the grind is properly dialed in.

I love the smell of crema in the morning. It smells like...victory!

Last one for the day, 4oz of 2% milk in a 10oz pitcher. Time to get your milk on!

Love it! Your video production skills shame mine. How did it taste? It looked like a very tight ristretto, but it could be the cup size throwing me off...

Was not too bad, the grind was a little tight so the pull was a little harder than normal (guess around 10 BAR). Thick and buttery with fruit and dry wine finish, new blend.

That cup is just short of 6oz. Center between the handle to cup points is 2oz, that was about 1.25 oz. The froth was not the best; my pitcher position was off just a touch so the texture was not as tight and silky as usual. But in my defense, that was the first shot and froth in a month on that machine.

I have the Faema open to install a delay on make adjustable relay for preinfusion. I should have that finished tomorrow or Saturday.

That was so great to see! I'd love to be able to pull a shot that good consistently. Mine are sometimes good, sometimes, not at all. And I never get that much in the cup! Thanks so much, Cannonfodder! I'll keep working on it.
Good music, too. :)

I have a close-up of this afternoons pull, it is dialed in now, and some steam action.

Dave-

Thanks for the video. I am looking forward to the next installment..... my Gaggia Factory 16-cup is en route (Finally) from WLL.

So, being totally new to levers, the initial pull and first few drops, is that what is considered the preinfusion? And is this considered a single or double shot?

Jeff, preinfusion wets the puck. It doesn't show up in your cup. It's intended to help stabilize the puck.

So the preinfusion occurs how and when? By a slight pull and pause from the top position before the real pull,... or do you lock in the PF before you pull the lever up and let that little gush of water preinfuse?
