There was a LOT of machine abuse going on there. Wow.

This beauty was recently awakened from a long sleep in storage. There are a few of these floating around the Toronto area, as Faema Canada used to be the distributor for Zacconi. I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to restore about a dozen Rivieras. I recently spoke to a vendor in the area that's been in talks with Zacconi Workshop. Let's hope Canada can once again have an official representative/distributor for these glorious machines.

Nice work as usual Nelson.
Top quality brass, chrome and hardware on these pre 2005 Zacconi Riviera machines and probably one of the most underrated machines out there.
I think from experience that it's only downfall was a smallish group / PF combo of 45mm that has been addressed post 2005 on the newer machines.
Does anyone know he size of the new PF group btw.

Hi, we recently talked about zacconi on the french forum, because a member bought a new baby big.It has a 50 mm group, from what he measured...so it's good to know, with that size, the classic "it's a bit short", from zacconi's users background, shouldn't be anymore. Our friend from the forum is fan of his new baby! The bad news are that they've stopped producing spring levers...

bastien, thanks for the update. You have answered a couple of looming questions.
Interesting to know the new Zacconi group is 50mm.
There was also some debate regarding spring vs non-spring group that you've answered.
Wonder if the group fits a La Pavoni or Mcal portafilter.

I had one of those, that I bought here in Toronto.
It was my first espresso machine, 30 years ago.
I saw it in the shop window and had to have it, despite being in school at the time and broke.

That sounds like a made for TV espresso love story. Espresso passion or impulsive buying. Sure we've all been there sometime in our live.
Do you still have it ?

No I don't have it anymore.
It began my passion for espresso.
Over the last 30 years I have owned 4 HX pump machines.
Recently I went back to how it all started for me....with a manual machine.. I bought a new Cremina.
I also just received my Flair, for when I travel.
Oh ya, forgot this part.... about 16 years ago I found a brand new Caravel at a yard sale for $15. I played around with it a bit but thought it was kind of like a toy. I just didn't know how to use it at the time. 16 years ago very few people were even talking about them. I ended up giving it away to a work colleague. Ya, kicking myself now over that one !
