I remember seeing a similar machine on eBay that was a 1953 model and in serious need of restoration. The bidding was north of $20K and did not meet the reserve! Ooh, I think I still have a picture from the listing...yep, here you go.

Seeing 49th's so meticulously restored is really a treat.

By Stefano Ugolini.
The Microcasas violently deny any relation and get angry when someone brings up the topic. According to usually well informed sources, sometimes you can hear them cry that it happens in the best families and that it is nothing to make fun of. We will never know for sure. Nor do we want to.

I posted an URL since pictures of this machine aren't worthy of being in the same digital neighborhood as the La Marzocco.

I recently moved to Pasadena and have brought with me the Sama/Dampa Export which I acquired for a wonderful price last summer in Oregon. My new grinder (Kyocera manual) is soon to be in the mail from orphan and I'll be experimenting with it once it gets here. I live down the street from a wonderful small roaster, Jameson Brown, so I'll have no shortage of supremely fresh beans to play with. I picked up the coffee seen in the photo on the drive down, at a place called Santa Cruz coffee roasters - have not tried it yet (no grinder). Here's the picture:

Welcome, Nick, and enjoy! I've not seen one exactly like that but it resembles the PV Export quite a bit.

NIck,
I picked up the same one off Greedbay a few months ago. I haven't played with it yet as I am hanging with my Elektra MCal for a minute. I have to buy a tamper for the Sama anyway.
To all those don't have a silver spoon in their mouth, it's okay. Rusty forks get the job done too.

It's exactly the same machine as the PV export, actually - Its been re-branded 3 times, first Sama, then Dampa, now PV, but they're all the same machine. Maybe there was a 4th company, too, not sure. The tamper is 44.5mm (I made my own). Grinder is in the mail! should be here by Friday! yahoo!
