Less expensive O-ring replacements for La Pavoni Pro?

Postby zubinpatrick on Sat Sep 11, 2010 10:19 am

Hi, hopefully this is a simple one. I need to replace the O ring between group head and boiler, I've rebuilt a few pavs at this point so changing it is not the problem, the problem is the Cost. My parts place wants $12.00 for one O ring. Is there something special about the O ring? Is there any reason I can't go to a Bearing supply store and get a matching O ring? Is the rubber different, or is this just an o ring made in China, sent to Italy then sent to the US, then sent to Canada and I'm paying all the shipping and margins?

I just bought a whole rebuild kit, which included that o-ring, from Orphan Espresso for right around $20USD. Very reasonably priced, and good service. I recommend them.

Bear in mind that not all o-rings are made of food safe materials that remain stable at the environmental temperature of an espresso machine. So not just any o-ring that physically fits is suitable.

A second thumbs up for Orphan Espresso. Doug and Barb are good folks and square dealers. You can find their page of parts for La Pavoni Europiccola and Pro machines at http://www.orphanespresso.com/La-Pavoni-Europiccola-Pro_c_200.html

Have used OE as well and they are great. Also Thomas Cara Ltd, I don't know if he'll sell the o-ring separately but worth a shot? :D

Might look at smallparts.com. The site is a bit retro, but they have a huge selection of o-rings, including silicone.

The thing is I'm in Canada, and any time I order from the states the shipping taxes and Brokerage fees make a $20 part turn into a $50 part, so if I can't order Canadian I'm stuck paying big $$$....Good point on the silicone o ring I'll check that out.....it just bugs me to pay $12 for a 25 cent O ring.

Some plumbing supply stores do sell high temp o-rings, there's several places here in MPLS. You just would need to match 'em up. This might also help, De Luca Brothers Foods International Ltd

and this.
