From this morning's shot of Paradise Roasters Espresso Classico:

Dose: (I am using something similar to Mr. PeaceCup's cut-corner method, but I stir from the black plastic cup into the basket with the end of the thermometer)

Sorry a few of the pictures were out of focus. I think the camera may have decided that the paper towel is the subject, and not the coffee at the top of the basket.

EDIT: Again, I'd like to reiterate the point that spring levers make crema!

Dan:

For proper focusing, aim the focus point of your photographic instrument at an "intersection" or dividing line that's high contrast. The camera's firmware is looking for something contrasty to focus on. You may want to visit a photographer's forum at DPREVIEW.com for further informaton.

Thanks. I'm usually spot-on, but I got a bit lazy this morning. I think what I really needed was a bigger depth of field for the tamper to be completely in focus. The camera is a Nikon D70s, so it really will shoot what I tell it to (hence the laziness resulting in a poor quality picture).
