LaPavoni won't heat....

Postby Lever_Man on Wed Jul 01, 2009 11:28 pm

Lent out my LaPavoni Professional. Got it back clean, but now it won't heat. Initially, upon return, it would over-pressurize to 1.5 - 2.0 bars. Now it won't heat at all. Power switch illuminated but nothing else.

1) Any ideas what the cause of this is?
2) More importantly, how do I fix?

Thanks.

Thermal trip under base probably needs resetting.... While it's off try adjusting pressurestat down but check the screw isn't glued in place first.

Only the latest Europiccolas have the thermal switch, yours could have a brown fuse or a fusable link. Those need replacement. Worst case, the heating element is toast. The most common mistake, in operating a Europiccola, is to run it without enough water. That would do in the element rather than blow a fuse or trip a switch. Blown fuses and tripped switches are usually caused by a short or power surge.

Remove the base and test the poles of the heating element using a contininty tester to determine, if you need a replacement. Unplug the machine before testing

There may be something else going on. When fuses are blown or elements are dead, the switch usually won't be lit. You may be able to obtain useful info from the borrower. Did he run it empty? Did water get in the inside underneath? Did he try to fix it himself?
