La Pavoni Pro can't get up to full pressure

Postby dougburgy on Wed May 11, 2011 6:27 pm

My Chrome LP Professional (around 2002 model year) is doing the same thing it did a few years ago. The difference is, last time I found a great website that walked me through every possible problem in a troubleshooting guide that helped me locate and ultimately fix the problem. I can't find that site to save my life now.

I believe it was the little round "fuse" but can't remember for sure. I have also put in a new switch since bought new.

What it is doing:
It will get up to proper pressure initially (slower though I think) but it won't hold pressure long enough to even get one cup of milk to proper temp or froth for my latte. It "tries", but goes up and down, never quite getting there. Haven't tried pulling a shot in this condition. Anybody know what would cause this for sure? I need some parts because I can't stand paying Starbuck rates!

Thanks!!
Doug

I doubt if its the thermal fuse, If that was tripped it shouldnt get hot at all. I assume youre pro model has the pressure gauge right?

What pressure does it get up to if you leave it sit cooking for a bit.

Also is it blowing steam out of the bypass? Under "normal" operation the pressure stat models shouldnt blow off as the older models do. If yes something may be wrong with the nylon "ball" or spring.

If its not blowing steam but still not getting up to normal pressure your pressure stat may be shutting the heat off too soon. It may be bad or out of adjustment

Thats the first few things that come to mind

Sounds more like a sticky pstat microswitch or even the stat itself. Should not be any steam blow off on a Pro.

It's clear I need to be more precise on the symptoms in order to assist in trouble shooting. I will fill, power up and post more exact times, pressures, temps, etc. No bypass blow off (I'm assuming because it's the Pro model) during operation. Just drank a cup of regular old "joe" made in my french press. Yuck. I've gotten so spoiled making my own espresso over the last 10 years that I've forgotten how horrible a regular cup of coffee is in comparison.

Thanks for help.

I reckon Doug's on the money. Sounds like the p/stat.
