I just got a La Pavoni Eur. myself, and noticed the same problem--the first several inches of pull were like going through air. Folks here suggested (correctly, as far as I can tell) that I was pulling up too quickly on the lever and introducing too much air...or something. Once I slowed the upward pull, I started getting adequate resistance at the beginning of the pull. I'm still not getting great crema, but I'm trusting the learning curve will start kicking it at some point. - matthew
