La Pavoni Europiccola (Pre-Millenium) heating element question

Postby cherrera2001 on Sun Feb 27, 2011 1:32 pm

Hello All,

I am sorry if this has been asked before, but I have seen a bit of conflicting information, and I am not sure what the correct answer is.

I recently found a La Pavoni Europiccola (made in 1995 according to the sticker on the bottom) at a garage sale. It was in pretty bad shape but could be brought back with a little TLC. My father had one of these and I used to work on his so I am pretty comfortable taking this on. However, when I removed the base I found that there were no wires  ! I have a pretty good handle on electrical work, so I am not too worried.

The question I have relates to the heating element itself. It is the 4 prong heating element (with no hole for the pressurestat, I believe this one just has the thermal cut-off fuse) and the double switch. My question is: I know that the heating element has the lower and the higher resistance elements, I checked the resistances and they seemed OK (13.1 for high and 59.2 for low). In the high heat stage are both coils on or just the 13.1 ohm coil?

Thanks so much for any help you can give :P !

Have a look here:

According to Francesco the 2-prong element was introduces earlie nineties, that would conflict with the production date of yours.

Thanks so much for your reply! It seems as if I have a strange mish mash of parts....there is a sticker that says 1995, however, I am not 100% certain that this is the original base, as it is the only piece in decent condition, It could be a newer base. Thanks for the link to the site though, based off of that picture I can kind of see what is going on now.

Best Regards,
Chris
