La Pavoni Europiccola Millenium portafilter. Clipless or with Clip??

Postby rawman on Fri Apr 04, 2008 11:17 pm

Hi, Sorry for cross posting this, but I hijacked Rob / IMAWriter's thread so I wanted to pull this out,

I recently got 2 La Pavoni Millenium Europiccolas from Williams Sonoma. Both of them came with stock PFs with basket retaining clips, and with ridge less baskets.

For others with La Pavoni Millenium Europiccolas, did the stock PF come with a clip, or was it clipless? Also, has anyone gotten one with a ridged basked?

Since I had never seen one before I assumed that they all came with clips. IMAWriter said his came with the indentation for the clip but no clip, and rapidcoffee said all of the ones he has seen all have had no clips and no indentations where the clips would even go. I'm curious to see what types other folks have gotten.

Moderators (those who are not in tax season hell) feel free to reprimand me for cross posting, or the other posts may be moved to this thread.

That would be nice if they finally put clips in. I have an old Pre-Millennium Professional, and the lack of clips is seriously aggravating when the basket falls into the knockbox (or worse, the trash can). I ended up solving this problem by putting a rubber band around the basket and using a naked portafilter, so the basket is pretty well stuck in the portafilter. The bands tend to break about once every couple of months.

Well, from the Gaggie Factory version of the Millenium EP, the inside wall of mine is as smooth as a babies bottom. I'd kill for a clip groove, as I can make a retaining ring myownself.
That makes quite the difference as to where I will shop for my next PF, though. Feel like selling one? ; >

Mine is about three years old (to me...who knows when in or after 2000 it was built). No clip, no ridge. Smooth portafilter baskets.

No problem, friend.
I can't figure out why mine has the groove, but no clip...I triple searched the box...everything had been factory wrapped...you can always tell if there's been messing around...got no answer from espressogifts, or La Pavoni.
For me, the problem is theat my beautiful Regt fits perfectly for tamping, but if I'm not careful, removal of the tamper will lift the basket out.,..just slightly...it is no fault of the tamper...I just need to pay more attention...I've been spoiled by the Naked PF with clip and ridge-less Synesso basket I use with Anita.

That's the curious part... Why doesn't yours have the clip. What do you mean everything was factory wrapped? What was wrapped? The baskets, POS plastic tamper and the scoop were in a plastic bag, but nothing else in either of the boxes I got were wrapped in plastic. The PF was just in the designated location in the styrofoam. The machine wasn't in plastic either... Was yours?

No, you're right...stuff was in a sealed plastic bag, the auto frother was in it's own compartment...guess I meant nothing looked like it had been used...the urnex type stuff was there...but a VCR tape, not a DVD, which leads me to believe mine unit is a bit older...for all I know, could have been at WS for several years...this way too intensive the usual Stepford wife type shopping in Cool Springs Galleria!...haha

What a bunch of pansies! What's the odd 3rd degree burn when in pursuit of the perfect shot? I have a pre-millenium Pavoni so obviously it's clipless and ridgeless but I thought it might be a good time to share my solution to burnt fingers. It's a rubber thing used for sorting mail. It's taken some of the pain out of it for me :?
