I have a pre-millenium Pavoni so obviously it's clipless and ridgeless but I thought it might be a good time to share my solution to burnt fingers. It's a rubber thing used for sorting mail. It's taken some of the pain out of it for me :?

\Pansy!...

No seriously, that is a way cool solution...and necessary after the 2nd shot, when the PF and basket have really heated up.
But for those of us over 50, a reminder of out next visit to the Dr.

Owning older Pavonis and Creminas I have no clips... but soon after buying them I also bought numerous double filters. The best I and others have found are the Leva A double filters. I bought six of them because they fit both the Pavoni and Cremina 49mm portafilters. The point is that when I make a few doubles I first grind and load the baskets. As I finish the pull on each one I simply dump the basket into the sink and later after the basket cools I remove the contents safely w/o having to bash the basket against anything.

Unless you have one of those that goes past my elbow, you take that back! ( ; > )
My issue is digging in the yard tall garbage can that I've mounted my bottomless knockbox into. Burns!? I haven't been burned by anything other than actual hot water in years! ; >

Yeah, for me the pain is reaching into a foot and a half of garbage to retrieve the basket that somehow slips past my restraining finger.

hehe. Can't help you with that one but maybe someone who works in a slaughterhaus might have a solution. Or I've seen vets examining cows sometimes... but I guess that's even more equipment. If you find the right glove, I'd recommend buying it new :D

The La Pavoni Millenium Europiccola I purchased from Williams Sonoma circa March 2008 came with stock PF with basket retaining clip.

Mine also came with a retaining clip, though the spare PF I bought did not have one. However, one thing I found about banging the PF against the knockbox is that the PF will dent as it is made of brass. So I ended up scooping out the spend grounds anyway.
