La Pavoni Europiccola 2001(?), worth the money?

Hi all,

Well, one should never start to buy an espresso machine. It can become an addiction, or so I've noticed

Currently using a Rancilio Silvia, I'm wondering about lever machines. I think making coffee will become a whole different experience, so I'm looking for a second machine.
I came across an used La Pavoni Europiccola Lusso. From the pictures, it seems in good condition, although there is a little oxidation underneath the drip tray. The owner states it is approximately 7 years old, although that can vary, because he's not the first owner. Will there be a difference between this model and a new model?

The asking price is 200 euro (~290$). Is this reasonable or should I wait for another offer?

I forgot to mention, it was serviced one year ago.

See if you can find out the PF size. 49mm means pre-Millenium. 52 (ish) means Millenium. Other than that it's not a bad price and there may or may not be any difference between the model you're looking at and the newer ones.

Sounds like a reasonable price for a working one. Does it have 2 switches on the side or one? Mine is pre-2000 "pre-millenium" and has 2 switches and the 49mm filter baskets. The post-2000 models have a slighly larger PF and basket as mayhew described. There are differing views on whether the increased size is much of an improvement. I can't comment on the differences as I have only used my pre-millenium. I'm very happy with it. Lovely to use and once you get over the initial learning curve, great shots. If this machine was serviced a year ago, the seals may be ready for changing soon but it's easy to do and it's really good knowing the workings of the machine.

There is also an in-between model which I have.
It has the pressurestat, so just one switch, and 49mm portafilter.

Mine was built in 1999.

The europiccola would go well with silvia- euro for a quick coffee or 2, silvia for when you make more cups.
Personally I'd only pay 200 euro for the 51mm model.
