La Pavoni boiler removal

Postby bizicp on Sun Jan 03, 2010 12:42 am

How do I remove the boiler from my La Pavoni Professional 1982 model? I think it just unscrews, but we have tried all we know and it will not budge!

If you unscrew the base, you will see the underneath of the boiler.

The wires need to be disconnected (mark them so you know where they go!), and the heating element plate needs to be removed. There are 3 bolts that hold this into the boiler. Once that is off, you will need to unscrew the ring that is holding the boiler to the base.
Hope that helps!

This video from Orphan Espresso, may help you, It covers a similar base removal problem:

I don't know whether the LaPav that you have was made with the screw off base/heater, it sounds that way. Many early Pros do have them. I have a pre-millennium Europiccola that still does. So the video will give you a start. The gaskets will be stuck to the boiler and heater base due to the gasket material itself. The fancy tool for removal that they tried is an oil filter wrench. The newer style of 3 bolt heater was designed to be removable with a lot less trouble..
Good luck!

Orphan Espresso sell a $12 tool for removing the heating element so you can remove the boiler. My brother says it was worth every penny.

I replace a burned out element on a 80's vintage by screwing in longer screws into the three holes and using a small 4 inch wide board between the upright screws to unscrew the element. The taller screws kept me from hitting anything in side the bottom case. I used heat treated cap screws so the screws wouldn't bend. I think I got lucky because it unscrewed easily. My brother couldn't budge his with out O.E.'s tool.

Good luck.
