Drop in Kettle Descaler

Postby KnowGood on Sun Oct 24, 2010 1:49 pm

Anyone using a kettle descaler inside their LaPav (or similar machine)? Any thoughts on how well they work if they work at all?

I've never tried household descaler, but Greenbeanery sells Dezcal in bulk for a decent price ($6 for enough to make 5-10L, depending on strength). Sold out right now, but should be restocked soon. Works spectacularly well on the crappy Waterloo water :P

I guess I should have been a little more clearer on what it is I'm talking about. What I am referring to is made from stainless steel wire. It's purpose is for kettles, and is to "provide a large surface area for which to collect the limescale. The kettle is kept free of deposits, thereby reducing boiling time and energy costs. It will also help prolong the life of the element." (their words not mine)

You just drop into the boiler and be done with it I'm guessing. I thought it may help with my LaPav, but I was hoping to hear from someone who may have tried it or is still using it.

Your machine would be quite easy to descale, so I wouldn't bother with that.
