I finally did it - bought an Olympia Cremina off ebay!

Postby mturkel99 on Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:34 pm

Hey guys. Alright, I have been waiting for this moment for a while. Hopefully, I didn't do anything stupid. I just purchased a Olympia Cremina on ebay! Item number 260186424936. It needs restoration but it was only $361! Anyone know where I can get a drip tray, boiler cap, threaded press handle and anything else I need? I have the naked portafilter that I just purchased from espressme but I still need the portafilter handle and I think the filterbasket.

Alright so I think I managed to order the lever the handle and the boiler cap directly from olympia (assuming they really do fill out orders. So now the question is drip trays.

Congratulations- the game is afoot!

All of this is MHO- others may quickly throw more life lines - so grab the one that works best for you-!

You can contact Olympia Xpress CH- they sell parts like your boiler cap, lever , handle, basket and drip tray and grate. If you do not get get your order filled or there are items no longer in stock you can try some of these other options. Try them out MR Markus maybe all geared up and ready to go-

So Start here:
http://www.olympia-express.ch/default.htm

Boiler Cap:
Olympia? - I do not know of any other places- A critical detail. I am sure one can be made, threads cut and then inserted into a wooden or phenolic knob of some kind possibly also found at McMaster

Handle:

This was sniped from the Nakid PF arrives post- So Mc Master is a place for your handle

"my Cremina suggestion would be: fill search box with this part # from Mc Master-Carr.
3701T41
Metric Phenolic Tapered Handle Smooth, M12 X 1.75 Thread, 112 mm Length, 29mm Dia
In stock
Quantity Each
1-9 Each $8.14
10 or more 6.84"--- Note: you will need two- the threading for the handle-end of the lever is the same as the PF thread- M12X1.75. They will look almost exactly like the originals.

Lever:

You can check with a member or two for machining options- any of us can give you length so a local machinist could cut you some s/s rod and cut some threads. Same threads on both ends? I would have to check.. hardness / strength specs - a person in the know here would have to chime in

Drip tray:
Try Will, at Home Espresso Repair in Seattle- he might have the pair ( tray and grate)

http://www.espressorepair.com

Basket:
Once again Will - maybe or Stephano at http://www.espressocare.com or our good folks at EPNW for La Pavoni or Elektra Microcasa Aleva baskets ( they can be used in the NEWD PF you have purchased from Richard with a little rounding of the edges).

Good luck

congrats!
I was tempted to bid on this one also but decided to hold off since I just won a La Pavoni. Please let us know how much more in parts you end up purchasing for it to at least bring it to a functioning unit - not necessarily a full-up restoration.

I looked up the cost of several of the parts which mogo has already spelled out and decided that I didn't know enough......

I saw at a minimum - based on pictures drip tray, grate, boiler cap, handle, pf. Maybe gaskets?

We watched it too...but we have enough at the moment. Did the calculations - the one a few days ago brought $925. If you're one of the lucky ones & Olympia responds with your order - you'll be GOLDEN! Here's hoping for you!

But of all things, why don't the Swiss respond to their emails? I hope they do for you!

I was going to try for that one before I BIN'd mine. Looks to be a relatively easy restoration project.

Congrats.

Congrats... You beat me by $5.00...

I had contacted the seller about this unit because it looked to me as if the frame itself had been torked out of square. That is the reason I did not go any higher on this one. I still am not sure whether it is square or not... But anyway heres hoping... :)

I do have extra parts for the Cremina... Everything except the boiler cap... SO if you run into a jam PM me and maybe we can get you up and running soon. (I even have an original extra portafilter hanging around) I don't hold much hope for Olympia Express... others may disagree. JMHO...

I have ordered and received the handles that Greg spoke of earlier and they are 100% spot on for the Cremina!

Good luck with your new project!

For now, I'm sticking with the Olymipia site and crossing my fingers. For some reason, there doesn't seem to be any way to order the drip tray & grate for the 67. However, they sell it for the 2002. Do you guys think it will work/fit?

M,
You can ask Bob Craig- he has a older Cremina and a 2002- he could confirm if the fit is compatible.

Let us know what kind of shape it is in when you get it. It is always an adventure buying on Ebay.
