If you are going to use doppio instead of double you must state the volume in metric

With my machine's (Ponte Vecchio Lusso)45mm diameter double basket, I use the "two scoop" method, or two tablespoons slightly heaping. This translates to a 15g dose, and 1-3/8 ounce is a typical shot volume.

I heap the ground beans into the basket, give light settling rap, add grounds to heaping in the basket. Then I cover with an upside-down single basket, give it a light upward shake using "Mr. Brown's Distribution Technique." A fairly light tamp allows adequate head space for the shower screen.

For some reason I just can't bring myself to go to ml for volume, but I'll try.

I keep experimenting with different grinds/doses in the PV 45 mm basket, but I nearly always come back to the "maximum dose, finest grind" principle because I like the results in the cup. This principle holds that I fill the basket until there is just enough headroom for expansion, and grind fine enough to be on the razor's-edge of needing to apply a little extra pressure via the "leaner" lever override method.

It will be good practice, since that's how it's done in Konungariket Sverige. You can put it on your resume: "Metric adept."

No reason not to follow your tastes and your penchant for walking the razor's edge. But I feel obliged to defend the lungo, it has so few friends and allies. I pulled a tasty 9g 50ml shot in the Lusso's double-basket. Now that is quite a dosing range! 9g to your ... 15g+ ?

Someday I will try another lungo - today, however, has been a day of 15+ g tight ristretti (4), all measuring ~ 30 ml. One wonders if these should even be called drinks - they are more like coffee syrup!

HEHE HAHA!

I have em all

53mm, 58mm, and 68mm.

Oh yeah my collection's 12 inch Imus called him so is the 68 mm, about 10mm tall double basket on the Enrico lever. Add on top of whatever you get, this is da champ. I still "see sounds and hear colors" after some of the shots on this giant.BTW that quote was from the inventor of LSD:)
Never get between a man and his ristretto, ever!
