Help with DIY europiccola repair - no heat

Postby benhogan on Thu Jan 27, 2011 12:49 am

I'm hoping to get some help from all the resident experts. I am a true newbie who can't seem to figure out what is wrong with my little pavoni and with no back up to make my espressos am becoming a grouch with wife, kids and coworkers. They too will thank you for your help.

2004 model. My machine stopped heating one day. The red light still turns on with switch but green doesn't and wont heat up. Did not appear that it started working and then shorted. I then found the Francesco Cecciarelli web page and after reading several post here got the courage to try to DIY.

Here's what i've done thus far
1 - I checked power source, and power into machine, so far seems ok.
2 - tried to check continuity to switch. couldn't find proper diagram. continuity seemed correct when switched on but could not tell if it was good so ordered new one.(update got new switch from OE today still not working)
3 - checked the reset fuse. also seems to have continuity and never have had to "reset" b/c of short.
4 - checked continuity on the heating element seems to be 14-15 ohms at the two prongs so would seem ok
doesn't seem to short out.
6 - all the wires seem good and have continuity
7 - the pressure stat I thought had continuity when I first started checking the machine a few days ago.
today it does not appear to have continuity when check both prongs. Is it supposed to?

Assume I'm dense in any explanation please since I truly am a newbie.

A million thanks!! : :D :

with machine cold and switch in on position:
continuity +
-across matched terminals of switch
-across thermostat (fuse)
-across pstat
heating element 14-15 ohms....check element terminal to base...no ohm reading=no short

that is about all the electrical system in a nutshell.
