Good news about parts from Olympia Express

Postby S.L. on Wed Sep 26, 2007 3:33 pm

I ordered a full gasket set and the boiler cap with pressure gauge a week ago and they arrived today! Maybe they're getting things together now. One piston gasket was missing in the set, and one copper gasket as well but I'll give them a ring in the morning to set it straight.

That is interesting news. Two questions. First, when did you put the order in? (For example, my last unacknowledged order for gaskets from them is over six months old). And, second, did they ever email you back or in any way acknowledge your order, or did it just arrive out of the blue. And please tell us if you get an answer if you ring them. If you do, then someone is on the premises.

That is good news.
Yes, please assure us if they are in business as a manufacturer or whether they are selling off the repair parts stock after a receivership.
Thanks

Did you order by phone or through the website?

I called first, then faxed and emailed the order. This was last Wednesday. They contacted me before shipping to confirm my address (I recently moved and wasn't in the current Swiss map/finder program).

I'll call tomorrow to see about the missing gaskets and will ask if they are still manufacturing. They did include a brochure on the Cremina 2002- that stainless boiler looks great!

I could have gotten lucky since I'm in the country; I know of a couple of other Swiss companies that do high end stuff, low production, and they also seem to be lazy about dealing with foreign orders. No idea why.

I've a friend in the US that recently received some backordered parts from Olympia, so it's not just a Swiss phenomenon. A very hopeful sign.

I actually just received an email today from olympia express for parts that I ordered via their online form about 1-2 weeks ago. This is great news! :D

This is good news. Replacement seals have been the Bugaboo for the machines. Most, if not all, mechanical parts for the machine are rebuildable or can be outright manufactured.. The cost of molding replacement seals is very high individually. I paid 15 bucks each ( cheap) for piston seals from another guy that wanted to have working machines and so he bought a short press run of them( Timmo)! My supplier had given me a quote significantly higher. As far as portafilters, that project goes on apace. With or without Olympia, they are needed. Dispersion screens the same ( no longer carried by Oly..)
So, We are better off than we were a few short months ago!
A better world through science. :D
Cheers

Last February I received the same email confirmation of my order for quite a few parts... including a full gasket set, portafilter, some seals, the drip tray and grate, shower screen, and heating element. I ended up cancelling the order in July of this year after about 4 emails and no answers... My cancellation of the order was not acknowledged either. Not to rain on this parade but time will tell the story here. I am not about to jump for joy...YET! :?
