Filter basket interchangeability

Postby RCMann on Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:36 pm

Having bought into the hype, my 'new' 1974 Cremina 67 is on the way...

I was going to buy a couple of the deeper 49mm double baskets from the Elektra Leva for my Europiccola-will these deeper baskets also fit Creminas, or is the Cremina basket already deeper than the Pavoni?

Thanks for the help...RC

This will be the order in depth, top being the deepest....bottom shallower:

Elektra
Olympia 67...the older basket is a hair deeper
Olympia Cremina new
Pavoni: Pre 2000

Since I am always juggling machines, I never have all of them at one place to take a picture. These compares are all off of the 49MM Double baskets

Do you know if the deeper baskets of the Olympia or the Elektra will fit the portafilter of my pre 2000 Europiccola or will they be too deep and bump the bottom?

They should all work with the Pavoni. I did a write-up on this in the Pavoni-Elektra side-by-side thread. I really liked the Elektra basket on the Pavoni. I am finding on the Olympia that their standard double basket is the best on that machine.

Thanks for that info. Just went into town today and bought an Elektra basket for the Pavoni. Looking forward to trying it out.

So for anyone with a Pre-millenium 49mm Pavoni (not me so just curiosity) who decides to use a deeper basket such as that for an Elektra, I presume there is no more space so no more pre-infusion and no more water coming through? In other words what would it actually achieve rather than the same water through more grinds, greater strength and perhaps an inferior result? Or is there more to it than this.
