Europiccola Boiler rotation?

Postby pavman on Wed Dec 12, 2007 7:48 pm

Is this even possible?

I've had a Millenium for almost 4 years and I could swear the boiler is now 1/5 rotated clockwise. Can't post a photo, but the spout is now over the far left side of the drip tray, if you're facing the machine, as opposed to the center.

Nothing seems loose, though I do get some water leakage at the base, and often during pulls at the connection between the boiler and the grouphead.

Thanks!

happens often,
as the portafilter gets engage in the group you should always counter force on the lever the opposite direction
fail to do so will eventualy make the boiler shift from the base
also
in a less scale the grouphead gasket, the portafilter wings and the group will wear which will make it go further to the left

Thanks Stefano. Are there solutions/fixes I can do?

Now I feel pretty silly: It did take a little nervous "forcing", but I was able to get the boiler moving and easily rotated it back to its original position.

Only thing is, it is a little loose -- doesn't take much to turn it in either direction now.

Any way to secure it to the base? How secure/safe is it if I can easily move it?

I had a similar experience with a pre-millen. europiccola. I fixed in by removing the base and tightening the large nut that holds the boiler in place. It was a long time ago and I have a terrible memory but I don't think it was particularly difficult.

goodluck.
cheers

Yeah, it definitely happens. It's usually a sign that the boiler to base gaskets are getting hard. Eventually they will leak.

The other problem is tightening boiler down enough. I've found that hard to do and it varies with the machine. Some have a plastic ring, others metal. With the metal ring I lube up the gaskets and threads and use a dowel and hammer for the final 1/32 of a a turn that seems to be needed to really snug it down.
