When I was younger around 12 my mother bought an Enrico Lever Machine. This would have been around 1983. Recently I found this in my closet and was trying to figure how the heck the thing worked. A few days later I was at my neighbors house and what to my wondering eyes did I see but another enrico. Quickly I asked her how does it work and she replied that she was not really sure. It seems she bought it around the same time my mother did -Macy's must have been having a sale that year. Certainly somefolks bought these and used them so someone must know how they work.
Now comes the other issue - how do you clean this? The filter holder is a bit dirty and may have some corrosion of sorts and I assume the reservior needs to be cleaned. The question about cleaning the reservior is an interesting one because what do you use to clean something you can not see and how do you know when it is indeed clean. To sweeten the pot (sorry could not resist) there was black stuff that came out when i rinsed it.
What I can tell you is when I was a kid I remember only one time that it was used and that was to do something special with the steam for hot chocolate - I know you are all cringing! I love good coffee but I know beans about espresso and these machines - forgive me.
Is this a desirable machine - I think it might have been a nice looking counter object that made an ok cup of espresso and a decent hot chocolate. Should I sell it and buy a different machine that makes an decent espresso?
