No such thing as a silly question when you are learning. But the answer is no. All you'll get is browny coloured water that will come out like a duck having a pee... and taste about the same.

It is very hard to get satisfactory results with any old cheap grinder.

The most cost effective way to get acceptable results is with a hand grinder, but even there, not all are created equal. Do some research - it will save you some time and potential missteps.

She might appreciate lousy coffee even less - if she drinks the stuff. Why get married anyway? Just find someone you hate and buy them a house  .

Paul,

I want to pile on with the others on this one. If you get a cheap grinder, you'll think your machine is hard to use, you'll be frustrated, and you won't really get a start. Check out a reasonable hand grinder or a great one like the Orphan Espresso Pharos and you won't look back. If you get more flack than you can stand about all that (not so much) gear you just bought (stole a minty Elektra MCAL -- check the retail on those things!), you can always sell your kit for well more than you paid. 8)

GOOD NEWS!

Had a coffee or two! yesterday - after replacing the piston seals, the seal up inside where the filter basket goes and a new double basket it works!

But

I have had to face up to reality that i am getting married in December so.......she is up for sale and I will buy myself a cheapie coffee machine and look forward to another day of owning one!

Just wanted to say thanks you so much all of you for you help and advice

I plan to pop it on ebay and see how it goes (seal supplier said it should do over £500 hopefully)

Thanks once again

Hey Paul,

Offer it to one of us in the Buy, Sell, Trade forum of CoffeeGeek. You'll save the eBay fees and make sure it's got a good home.
