Elektra Microcasa a Leva lever handle removal

I purchased awesome Cocobolo custom wooden handles from Dave however I can't remove the wooden handle from the lever. Any ideas or recommendations appreciated.

It unscrews. The brass ferrule is decorative but is also there to stop the wood splitting when you screw it on and off. If you are lucky, someone hasn't glued the handle on.
