Elektra Microcasa a Leva - is boiler capacity 1.8L or 0.8L?

Postby jackoo22 on Thu Nov 04, 2010 8:01 am

Hello all,
The Elektra MCaL is listed everywhere with a 1.8 L boiler capacity - even on the Elektra homepage.
I just bought a used one on the bay, and descaled it. I made 1.8L of citric acid solution and started pouring - only to top off the boiler at 0.8L to my great surprise??!! I cannot really look inside due to the small opening, but is there the chance that everyone just copies a typo? Or is the boiler that scaled up - which I seriously doubt? The water was blueish meaning that Copper Sulfate and other Copper compounds came off the heating elements etc, so it cannot really be covered that heavily?!
Could anyone owning an MCaL comment on this?
Thanks!

Filled to the very top of the fill hole my 2008 MCaL holds 1250ml of water. Shine a flashlight down into the boiler & you should be able to see if it's scaled up or not. Boiler capacity is measured without the heating element installed so the 1.8L is probably accurate.

In general I can fit 800 ml of water between the sight glass limits. I think the volume of the boiler is 1.6 liters, but with heat elements and space for the steam (above the sight glass), 1 liter total of water makes sense (and 1250ml to the top makes sense too).

Indeed, they say 16 cups, and to make 8 doubles (16 cups) we use around 100ml per double shot...

La Pavoni Europiccola fits around 600ml, where 400ml are usable. Hence, 8 cups (4 double shots).

Am I wrong?

800ml between the site glass limits sounds right as it took 1000ml to fill to the upper S/G limit after completely draining the boiler this morning. Add another 250ml to reach the boiler top as well as the boiler volume filled by the heating element & you will be in the 1600-1800ml range.
