Elektra Microcasa gasket installation problem

Postby bronsht on Sun Oct 30, 2011 2:21 pm

Greetings,
For only the second time I ventured to replace the gaskets and I messed up. I think I put the gasket nearest the spring on upside down. I don't have the strength or the know how to remove it without breaking it and then again reinstall it. I have failed miserably and now I have no coffee to sip. Is there someone strong and mechanically knowledgeable in San Francisco who could calm me down and fix this? You get a free espresso or cappa. Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't worry about it. You would have to be as subtle as a train wreck to do much damage. Put the assembly in hot water for a minute, lube it up with a bit of food grade grease and use a blunt screw driver type instrument to ease it off.

I have had to remove a few new ones because I wasn't concentrating and have not ruined one yet.

this is correct- it is not hard to remove the seal. Use a blunt screwdriver or similar and pry it under the back of the seal until you can work it over the piston lip.

there are some pics here that show a similar maneuver:

To all of you!
Thank you so much for the hints. If you had not told me I could use a screwdriver, I never would have dared. Instead of treating the gasket as a dainty heirloom I dove in today but needed two screwdrivers. I figured I had already ruined the gasket and/or would ruin it but be done with it. It still was not easy but I got it off and forced it back on. I now have my friend back. Again, thank you very much. bronsht
