johhnyguitar wrote:We watch, you watch...everyone watches ebay! We saw the wondrous listing for the O.C., much traveled, but not yet arrived from Switzerland when listed, the first time. Only a $1600.00 price tag then. Now, it's BACK! Apparently arrived from Switzerland, 'good as new', completely confused listing that refers in the title to a 2002 O.C., but with pictures of the actual machine this time...kind of! Oh, and a picture of the repair bill! The bill is probably worth a bit - actual paperwork from Olympia Express! They claim 'over $450.00' in repairs. A boiler gasket, steam wand valve & safety valve gaskets, and a switch - indeed switches aren't easy to get...$65.00 in parts. $85.00 in Manodopera (I believe that is labor & probably is about 50 Euro an hour, or more!)

The seller clearly tells the story. This was a very minor repair and service at Olympia. He includes the actual bill which confirms this. This was not an overhaul. All that was done was change the switch, boiler cap seal, safety valve seal, steam tap seal, knob and steam wand. The bill also clearly states that all he spent was a reasonable 147 CHF (approx. $150) total parts and labor on the actual work. Shipping and customs were an additional 104 CHF. While he may have spent $450, the majority of it was on shipping. This certainly does not constitute an overhaul, but just some minor service-period.

As to his listing it as a Cremina 2002, that is nonsense as is his comment that Ebay automatically changed it. Ebay never changes the text you submit. As to the comment as good as a new Cremina 2002, not a chance. As to good as a new Cremina 67, this one still likely has twenty-five year old seals in it!

Greg...mine was $667. I really caught a break. Everyone must have been watching WWE.
But over $1200?. That's a LOT of green for 1.5 oz of brown, though I understand how scarce parts seem to be.

That's insane. Absolutely insane! Too bad I'm not in the U.S.- I just listed one for sale locally and will be happy to see 1/3 of that, and mine's rebuilt!

What a difference a relatively few days make -- there are two Creminas on eBay at the moment.
  • One (Serial No. 8122373) is based in Seattle, has a starting bid of $1,000, and a "Buy It Now" price of $3,000; it's Day Six of a 10-day auction, and the item (not surprisingly) has no bids.
  • The other (Serial No. 7820642) is based in New Jersey, has received three bids so far, and as I write this, the high bid is $325; it's Day Five of a 10-day auction.

C'est la vie . . .

Cheers,
Jason

Take a closer look at the one "value-priced" at $1000/$3000 buy-it-now. The powercord has a 110-volt plug that's been added to it. That made me suspicious, then I looked at the picture showing the machine specs. Hey, it's all blurry! Look closer, and it sure looks like is says "50 Hz", and that means 220-volt. Did I miss it, or did the the seller fail to mention that minor detail? :? I think it's time to ask the seller for clarification (not that I'd pay - just to let others know).

The same machine was on sale last week and didn't have any bids then either. We discussed it on this thread:

Need a Cremina?

Perhaps that thread could be merged here.

1301$ for a cremina.

That's the price of the last sale on ebay, and I thought that the price were going down. This was a machine from 1986 said to be in storage till 2004, small blemish on a corner. No mention whatsoever of seal replacement or anything of that sort, even if it's been use little those are probably rock hard by now! I think I would prefer to go with a machine from Doug in those price range, at least you're sure everything's been checked up.

I'd rather spend the few extra hundred dollars and go with the B2006AL from Bezzera:

It's new, it's Italian, and it's a lever! :D

However, the three previous to the $1300 sale averaged right around $900 including freight. I tracked them, and when I saw the one for $1301, added them up. The average was within $5 of 900, plus this included freight.

the seller was fortunate to get that. I do not view that as a representative sample and believe this was not necessarily a good value for the buyer. Even so, this may have been one of the "must have for Christmas" as a special surprise type of deal and the buyer may know or not care that they overpaid.

Not sure what will happen to prices after the first of the year. I would think they may tend to go back down a bit, but who knows?

Whatever, you may consider that the bulk of the creminas on E-bay recently have been selling in the $900 range.

Ever since I bought my Cremina 67 in '06 I've watched the average price rise(except for a bit of this last year). I expect them to continue to rise. IMO, they are still and will continue to be a tremendous value. For my everyday personal home machine there is NOTHING I'd rather have(except for the new model, maybe  ).

I saw that one and was very surprised it went that high, in this economy..

I saw that too and thought to myself.. nice try. Hey I'll gladly take something off your hands for $250 that may well go for 2 to 4 times that. :)

I paid $1100.00 for my Cremina 2002, and had some serious second thoughts about it after I pulled the trigger. It turned out to need some work but all in all I'm pretty happy I got it. I also picked up a 67 model for $450 (built on 83 I think) that came with everything, including the original box, tamper, funnel, etc.. It's still boxed up waiting for me to get the chance to do a full rebuild. One of these days I'll get to it.

I wish Ebay still let us see who wins these things. It was funny, Farmroast sent me a mail after I got the 67 asking if I was the one who got it. I got worried for bit thinking maybe there was some issue. Turns out he was just sending congratulations my way.
