I'm fairly sure that A_J is referring to an Ah Ha he might have just had!! If you can choke your LP, get your apron on!!! and rip that portafilter off and let the "sneeze' remove the gasket, and diffusion screen, for you............... I was hoping there was another 49 MM tamper being given away

Yup. After I had everything cleaned up, I wondered why the PF wouldn't go in. The gasket and screen had blown completely out. It had been a crappy shot too. I'm still fairly new to the LP, and I'm guessing a few drips towards the end of the preinfuse show about the right grind.

Aaaah, I get it now. I must've been somewhat dense last night, I guess I shouldn't post after 1 or 2am my time...

Well it still occurs occasionally to me too. But usually before it sneezes I notice that the PF is quite hard to turn and when that happens I turn it carefully until it is only a a few millimeters before the position it comes off and then twist the PF handle a little up and down. That releases the pressure without making such a mess. Sometimes a little coffee still goes over the rim but that's tolerable...

But I don't get any drops during preinfusion unless my grind is way too coarse or during the first shot in the morning when I use some stale grounds of the day before to season the PF...
