Dripping Elektra MicroCasa a Leva

Postby narc on Wed Feb 13, 2008 12:03 pm

Yesterday into a cooled down, but probably not room temp. MCaL I refilled the boiler to its normal "full" level. About 3/4 full on the sight glass. This morning the water level was down to 1/2 on the sight glass and the empty cup I had placed under the grouphead contained probably all the water. No water anywhere else.

This morning I reloaded to the full level. Took a quick look. No drip. Turned on the MCaL and proceeded to pull 3 double ristrettos and one Americano. After cleaning the machine I noticed a very slow but steady dripping. It has been about 45 minutes since then. I just refilled the now warm to the touch boiler. Not sure if my eyes were seeing what I think they saw, but the water level in the sight glass seems to maybe dropped a small bit. I know it's a bad thing to pull the lever on a cold machine. But I pulled the lever and a few drips came out. I've noticed that the lever pull feels almost too smooth.

This is a ~6 year old machine that gets used an average of ~3x week. I'm guessing its the piston gaskets. Any other insight would be appreciated.

If it's dripping from the grouphead, I cannot think of any other possibility. Replace the piston gaskets. Remember to use a dab of high temperature food safe lubricant (link).

I experienced this on my Elektra Micro Casa a Leva too...and a change of gaskets solved the problem completely.
