Cimbali M20 lever rebuild

Postby craigcharity on Sat Oct 22, 2011 7:47 am

Hi Guys

I am busy restoring a Cimbali m20 lever machine, The piston is stick on the shaft and I would really like to know how they got it on there before I try and beat it off:)

It seem like the piston has some intended movement on the shaft, to center it whilst it moves up and down I guess.

First prize would be if someone has a pic of the different components of the piston and shaft.

Cheers for now
C

I have seen that, i just don't know how to get the piston off the rod, it seems to swivel.

Hi Craig

Got any pic's of the piston? It sounds the same as a faema 2 part piston. Is there 1 or 2 notches in the top ring of the piston? If so , you'll need to turn it off with a 'C' spanner

Thanks Kitt.

I was just reading it:)

My rod is pretty corroded so i hope I don't snap it off while I try and take it apart.

Have you ever used a m20 group? I can't the wait to try it.

I haven't used the cimbali lever group, looks interesting though with the dual springs.Another option if you don't want to remove the piston, is to compress the whole assembly, and remove the top pin holding the piston rod to the lever fork, not sure if this is possible, as i said - i haven't used this particular group

I have already removed them, i need to replace the rods tho because they are so badly rusted.

This is the pic of the 'good' one. The other one has about 5mm taken out of the OD because of corrosion.Image

Here are some more pics of me trying to get it off. I have a c spanner in transit so im spraying some q20 on it and heating the piston up to try and release the hold of to the rust.

I'm also on my way to get some releasing agent so i can soak it overnight. I will let you all know how it goes. It will be interesting to see how the piston swivel on the rod.Image
