Dan,

Why not give it a try?

For those wondering how to fix an element that's got a little water in it, OE has a link for checking and fixing that problem on a Cremina. It's here: http://www.orphanespresso.com/Olympia-and-La-Pavoni-Shorted-Heating-Element-Repair_ep_620-1.html

On the subject of recoring a heating element. Paul Pratt used to have a shop in Hong Kong that did exactly that - replaced the old coil with a new one inside the existing element. Does anybody know a small electrical shop of that type (outside the CEE or Asia)?

You might ask Doug and Barb at Orphan for information about how they convert 220 machines to 110. They have done that with several different machines, including some that probably do not have stock replacement elements.

Am currently working with a rep from Watlow to find a cost effective solution to replace the heating element in my vintage Caravel with a new 110v bendable heating element. I know they have elements that are for immersion or not. I need the latter. It has been an arduous process so far, about a month, but I am hopeful that something will work out. I will post pics and specs if and when. :D

Look in your area for a water heater company that has been around for a long time. They will likely have a tech that is capable of making a custom one or they should know of someone in the area that is capable of doing the job.
