Cremina 67 pressurestat replacement - Page 2

Postby davidl14 on Fri Jan 25, 2008 12:50 am

I was looking at the comparison with the Cremina 2002. The pressurestat I received is the one on the 2002. I've not installed it yet. Before I start does anyone see a problem?
Thanks,
Dave

To set the record straight, I have purchased hundreds of dollars from 1st Line including a Mazzer Mini, a brass La Pavoni, coffee etc. Apparently, the electrical connections are beneath the cover at the bottom of the black bakelite piece. Pressure adjustment is made at the top of the unit, near the plumbin connection, with a tiny recessed slotted screw. It's going to be quite a feat to connect the two wires from the heating element since the wires fit in groves with only enough room for the bare wires to be connected to the two screws since there is not enough room for a connector. With the connections at the bottom of the pressurestat, it's not going to be easy t make the connections. Any ideas?
Thanks for your patience with this novice.

If I understand you correctly, this is a pstat for the 2002 Cremina, and does not have spade connectors but two screws which tighten around bare wire. Is that right?

Your choice is to remove the connectors from the 67's wires, or buy another pstat, such as the C.E.M.E., that does have the spade connectors (there's a picture in this thread). I personally would do the latter, and then try to sell the 2002 pstat here or on CoffeeGeek.

I believe there was a thread here in the past year where the spade connectors were identified as being convenient, but not as sound as bare wire in terms of the electrical demands placed upon the device. It might have been a remark made by H-B member stefano65, but that could be memory playing tricks on me. He might have simply said it to me over the phone; I called him asking for advice when looking for a replacement pstat for my Oly Club. Stefano is both knowledgeable and generous with his knowledge.

Davidl14 -

Kindly, no one can see a problem because no one has seen a picture of exactly what pstat you are attempting to install ion your machine.

The C.E.M.E. pstats are typically installed in machines IN CONJUNCTION with a SSR (solid state relay). They have 1/8"-28 BSPP male threading at the pressure connection. Even though the contacts within this "switch" appear to be in the ballpark of your machine's rating, I would not use it as such. Pressure adjustments on the C.E.M.E. pstats are a PITA because of the size and sensitivity of their adjustment screw.

The MA-TER pstats are also typically installed in machines IN CONJUNCTION with a SSR. They have 1/4"-19 BSPP male threading at the pressure connection. Their pressure adjustment is very easy and is not sensitive.

Again, a picture of what you are trying to install would produce more intelligent responses.

David- I didn't mean to pick on your "digital-deficit" We all love to solve problems and you not having a camera is hampering our collective efforts.!

Another way around this is if you have Google- instead of searching the web for sites- click the "IMAGE" option right above the Google search frame. Type in "pressurestat" or the brand of what you have etc, and see if you can find a picture that matches what you have. Then save the picture to your computer for you to post here.

This is not the only way to do this but it might work.

Good luck and welcome

Thanks Greg:
I dropped the cremina off at the Coffee and Tea Exchange. Steve, the owner, found a recessed screw in the bottom of the CEME pressurestat. If that works, I've spent a lot of money for nothing and taken a lot of other peoples time. If not, he has the Olympia pressurestat for a replacement.
