I would like to tap the collective wisdom on machines that use group head water heaters rather than boilers (like the Faema Velox). There are a few classics from the 1950's besides the Faema that use this arrangement (e.g. Carimali Instanea models). The Arin seems to be one of the few home machines with a similar setup.

I have not heard very positive things about the quality of espresso from the Velox group. Does anyone have experience with these types of machines? Can they do an adequate job of producing coffee?

The Strietman CT1 Is a bit like that. It might count as a boiler since there is a bit of a reservoir up top, but the group itself is what's heated to get the water hot for shot pulling. I like it quite a bit, fast heat up and the temperature in the boiler is the temperature in the group without even flushing.
