Bubbles in the Elektra Microcasa a Leva Sight Glass?

Postby doubleOsoul on Sat Oct 30, 2010 8:48 pm

Hey All,

I have a question. I took my Elektra Mcal in on Thursday for servicing and when I picked it up Friday here in Victoria, I notices a bunch of bubbles in the sight glass. Never happened before. I set it up for use once I got home and low and behold - water was coming out all over. When I called the place, he suggested right off it could be a crack in the glass. Thing is, I never indicated where the leak was until well after he made that statement. Could bubbles be an indicator that there was a crack and that's what I was seeing when I picked it up? The company is trying to say I cracked it. I brought it up 2000 miles not 2 months ago and have used it every day without fail. I've never had any leaks anywhere. I was only having all the gaskets and rings changed as a part of good maintenance- a kit I bought from OE before I left.

Any thoughts on the bubbles?

If the glass is not cracked, could be a bad seal installation...

If somedoby is not 100% familiar with this particular machine,
the sightglass might not been pushed down far enough for the gasket/washer/nut to grab
or it could had be tighten too much and cracked the glass eventually.
Empty machine
loosen both nuts
remove gauge and fitting below it and see if the sightglass sticks up from the hole that connect to the boiler,
if so with a soft plastic tool or pencil push gently down until stops,
if this is not the issue then the sightglass guards need to be remove as well (with a snap ring pliers) and the sightglass replaced

No, Whitfield broke the sight glass, blamed me, then tried to blow me off. They told me the sight glass was broken before I told them where the leak was so they knew what the problem was. So a week and a half later I still don't have my lever. That's my welcome gift back to Victoria.
Rawman, I took my espresso machine in to replace all the seals and gaskets (seals and gaskets I paid for in the states (Orphan Espresso) and brought to Whitfield Field Service).

Geeez oh man....why are they quibbling over a sight glass? Time to tool up and fix it yourself! You'll be way ahead in the long run with a little effort and a few tools. Just a thought.

Doug - wise words. I will do just that starting with checking to see if my lever got the work done I paid for.
I miss you guys already :( - OE is lever friendly for folks like us.
