Bringing a Sama Export back to life - Page 2

Apologies for years of no updates on this project. I did, finally, get our Sama into a working state last spring and we we used it as a travel espresso machine last summer.

Via Good Coffee Company I sourced a new screen, portafilter gasket, some baskets, and a rebuilt cap/cup warmer. Cleaned and polished the paint with Turtle Wax. And a custom tamper from Reg Barber.

I also gave up on the used hand grinders and picked up a LeLit PL53 conical grinder from 1st Line. Couldn't be happier.

The little Sama worked pretty well for us during a month-long stay upstate. We pulled shots with various Gimme! blends as they had a shop right down the street from us.

Everything worked pretty well, though a month of regular use showed we have a few more restoration steps to do, including replacing leaking gaskets on the sight glass and the lever pivot is worn out and sticky. Figure I'll rebuilt the whole grouphead while things are apart.

Hopefully it's not another 4 years between updates...

Thanks for the update. I have a brown Sama still in storage that I can't wait to get out. Yours looks dynamite.
I'm so bad I kick my own ass twice and say nothin' about it...Dolemite
