Bezzera Strega squeak

Postby espressotime on Sun Sep 04, 2011 1:34 am

I put some Dow 111 on my Strega seals since the lever was sounding dry lately. And it was dry.Has been workingly perfectly for the last couple of weeks now but this morning I noticed the sound again.

Could it be that the heating elements which are located pretty close to the seals are the cause of this.Making the seals get dry faster as normal ?
Any Strega owners here that have had the same issue?

I've heard reports of squeaks from other machines, home and commerical. Use of 111 not withstanding, I believe that water is an important lubricant in itself. With home levers that are cooled off after each use I suppose the seals remain damp if used daily. With the Strega, if you are leaving in on 24/7, but not using it 24/7, I wonder if the group heat would be enough to dry out the seals overnight?

I don't leave it on that long.Maybe an hour max.
Applying the Dow takes 3 minutes and is a piece of cake. But I expected the water to be the lubricant for the seal eventually as you stated.

I have my Strega just over a month now and I leave it on 5-6 hours per day, every day. No problems to report, smooth operation so far.

Just took the piston out for the third time in 6 month to lube the seals.Started to squeak again.Could it be the group gets too hot for the seals?Could it be the elements heat the group to strong at a particular point in the group? After all there is no flow and distribution of the heat as in a thermosyphon.
I mean...three times in almost 6 months?

No squeaks from mine; and I leave it on 9 hours a day. This is a CMA group, designed for abuse: if anything, you are over-pampering yours

I haven't taken mine apart yet. I have two questions:

-- I removed the four screws that attaches the top part with the bearings to the outer case of the group; but wasn't able to remove it. What am I missing?

-- The diagram doesn't show the cylinder sleeve one finds on the standard CMA group. Is it there, or is this version without the sleeve.

Thanks
