Bacchi: The hydraulic 'lever' espresso machine.

Postby bigredted on Thu Dec 31, 2009 8:54 pm

Based on how interesting (to me anyway) the design of the little Bacchi is I'm surprised there aren't more posts and discussion on the machine. Anyone else interested in this little espresso machine?
Has anyone had a go yet?

The design uses a spring and piston? and hydraulic pressure to 'lever' the espresso shot.

The design and execution of the 'machine' seems fairly ingenious, - I would love to find out more about it but there doesn't seem to be much indepth information on it apart from a short 'sales' blurb and video at the wholesalers? website. (Comocaffe is the company name I think)

Does anyone know where/how one can purchase one? Ballpark retail price?

Cheers, Ted.

There's a full thread here: Andrea Bacchi: the Leonardo da Vinci of espresso

You can buy it from: http://www.caffemotive.it/

Thank you, Mike,

I had already read through that thread (including the OP's blog singing it's praises in poorly translated Italian) and have also been to the Comocaffe website. There is no provision on the site for purchasing the machine, no prices, no availabilty info, etc, which is why I made the original post looking for more information or discussion.

As there seems to be an interest in original/interesting espresso machine design in this forum I'm hoping others may chime in.

Cheers Ted.

A little bird suggested that one of the H-B sponsors has one on order and going to try it to add to our knowledge.

Next time I'm in Italy, I'll make a pilgrimage to Trieste and get me one of those! (And I'll leave out the sugar -- I add booze instead!)

Ted just drop caffemotive an e-mail and they'll send you a quote, assuming there is no distributor agreement already in place for your country.

Cheers

Ted,

When you get a quote can you contact me, or let everyone on to it. I would be interested as well (depending on cost of course).

Michael,

Thank you for the ground work. You are a gentleman!

Cheers indeed!

Some more info:

http://www.bacchidesign.it/carioca/tech...a_eng.html

They say the water temp is at 85-90°C. I wonder if the water could be hotter if you wait more time to open the valve after it's ready.

BTW, what a nice name!!!
