That's funny, ok. Are you keeping the EU plug or switching to 120v plug. You can always heat the water via kettle to assist in heat up time if you want to give it a try before then.IMAWriter wrote:Sorry if I confused you. It's not as yet plugged in. Adapter comes tomorrow.

keep the EU plug. The adapter is a Italian (3 prong)female to US 1110/120 male.
As I explained earlier, super heated water and 4 flushes, I still get coffee on the cool side. I mean like maybe 175f

I switched the element on the Caravel to 120v it heats up much quicker but achieves the same temp as the original element. I changed the plug on both machines to 120v type.

Didn't want to mess with anything till I'm positive this little beauty is working for me. If not, I freely admit it will be the moron in front of the PF, as it's tight, right and pretty.

I've been told it can be used in glamping (first time I'd heard of it!) without electricity but the beans used were relatively dark for specialty.

You can pour boiling water into the tank to test it without electricity.

Rob, I would suggest putting just a shallow covering of water in the bottom of the boiler, plug in, and after 10 min or so add your superheated water. That way you don't need to remove water via a baster. The beauty of the external heating element is that you can't burn it out by running it without water, since it's designed to do so. With this approach the machine will be heated up and you won't have much heat loss when you add the superheated water.

Another temporary solution while you wait for your new element is to drop an immersion coil heater into the tank. Especially if you start with hot water from a kettle, this should have you pulling shots as hot as you like with very little wait time.
