Approximate cost of portafilter, basket for La Pavoni

Postby zubinpatrick on Sun Jan 27, 2008 2:37 am

Approximately how much does a new portafilter and basket cost for a pavoni? I just need ballpark figure, portafilter and the large basket. Thanks in advance, Patrick.

PF ~ 50-100+! USD (depends on material, brass or chrome)
Basket 12-40+! USD

try:
espressocare.com
espressoparts.com
partsguru.com

I bought gaskets and basket from partsguru and also stefano's espressocare. Lots of folks here swear by Stefano. He also personally confirmed that an elektra basket which is deeper should fit my Europiccola but warned that it may be too deep for some groupheads.

good luck

Hello,

I bought a new brass portafilter for my Professional from partsguru sometime ago, which came with a double basket for only $66... A pretty competetive price when examined on paper. However, the quality of the portafilter is far below expectations. It has a very dull, pale yellow coating that is somehow darkened at the corners, and is very poorly lacquered. After less than 3 months of usage, the lacquer is already peeled from a lot of areas (which by the way is coming off black because of interaction with coffee and is very thick), mainly the rim, and there are some black dots because of espresso residues getting SOMEHOW under the loose lacquer... Very bad quality I would say but does the job nevertheless. The spout is also different with a round end, rather than the rectangular end found in the portafilter I had before, but this is no issue.

All in all, I suggest, since the portafilter is already very expensive, to pay more while being satisfied rather than paying less and feeling bad after all.

(Today is a sad day, in which I lost my single basket :( )

I purchased a chrome Pavoni Millenium portafilter and double basket from PartsGuru ($60 + shipping). No quality issues whatsoever; AFAIK the portafilter is identical to the portafilters that ship with the Pavoni Europiccola and the Gaggia Factory levers. The basket is almost identical, the teensiest bit more flared at the upper lip (an advantage for WDT fans :)).

The 49mm Elektra Microcasa double basket is a touch deeper and may fit older model Pavonis, but it's too narrow for the 51mm Millenium models. You do not want an Elektra basket for a Millenium model Pavoni (or Gaggia Factory). The 51mm baskets hold a bigger dose in any event.

I'm told that Whole Latte Love is now selling Gaggia Factory portafilters (i.e., Pavoni Millenium portafilters) for a similarly reasonable price. Just make it clear that you want the 51mm Gaggia factory PF, not the 58mm Gaggia pump PF.

Just a quick point. I have an older pre-millenium pavoni and the elektra baskets don't fit in the portafilter since they are too deep. I do, however, use them in my 67 Cremina where they fit.

Yes, WLL is shipping me a spare Gaggia Factory G 106 pf for $42.75 (minus the current coupon 5% off as shown on their website - shipping included). WLL assured me on the phone it is indeed the 51mm pf for the Factory & that's how the e-mail invoice reads - but I suppose I won't know for sure until the package arrives.

I want the spare to have it made bottomless for use with my Gaggia Factory G106 - and as I can simply use the Gaggia baskets I already have, I didn't ask about pricing for them...

If you're still looking for a filter basket for La Pavoni, try http://www.europeangift.com/. I just bought a double basket for a VERY old La Pavoni Eur. They sold me a used one for $16. New, as I recall, they're about $26.
