Since this could apply to other machines with these taps, for whoever does this, the grip to the shaft would probably be metal, threaded into wood. Creating an inner square by hand would involve drilling a few holes for the corners in brass and finishing it off with a file.

wow: it must be a real rarity to fetch those sort of dollars in that state.... The seller who likely found it in a barn and paid 25 Euro's for it must be pretty happy today... I hope one day we see it again fully restored!

Yeah, he was telling me about it. I was surprised he jumped in at that price. But knowing his talent and capabilities, it's probably already descaled, straightened out, rewired and the parts waiting in front of his chrome shops door. :wink:

The American Espress is dated 1953 and the full rebuild is on facebook " Doctor espresso Ltd " sorry but i am completely knackered looking after children, coffee bars and a service business, never mind restoring these machines . Hope you like what I am upto.
