Adding Boiler Pressure Gauge to Olympia Cremina

Postby AlexH on Wed Feb 03, 2010 5:55 pm

I want to make either a steam wand or boiler cap attached pressure gauge for my cremina 67.

What type of gauge should I look for? Are some clearly wrong and will not work?

Looking at these two cheapies on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/Ametek-Utility-Pres...4837c0ace8

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Wika-Pressure-G...2913wt_943

The second looks like better quality, but not such a tight pressure range. I am comfortable with having to convert from bar to psi.

Thanks

I just did this with the old cremina cap I had. I used omega gauge, check this link starting at 11$ it's really a good deal.
http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=PGU_Series&ttID=PGU_Series&Nav=

You can choose your connection back or lower connection and the size. I took the 2.5" with back connection so I read the dial from the top. 1-2 bar Is the more appropriate it's quite useful to get the info in bar instead of just PSI as seen in the ebay auction.

Yeah, 11 is not too bad, and Bar is easier but had trouble locating one. I thought omega gauges were much more expensive.

This may be helpful...
Attaching a pressure gauge to the Olympia Cremina

I also did a pressure gauge on my 'C' Lever.

Espressme also has made a cap that can accept a pressure gauge for the Cremina.

Espressme is Mr Penney, right?

I like your C Lever project very much btw.

My cremina is the big brass bar type. So I guess I could tap the bar and put the safety valve elsewhere on it.

I decided the quickest way to home in on correct pressure would be by taste. So I am adjusting the pressurestat until I get a good shot. Might as well trust my palate. Still too hot at this point, but starting to get good crema although burnt flavours still predominate.

Drilled into the bar, drilled a hole through the stainless front plate.

Wow, thanks for the kudos Richard. I've seen your work on the portafilters. Man! Do I want one of those!
