Should I try to remove the brass sleeve on the 73/74 La Pavoni? Is there anything to gain by taking this out?

The dispersion screen on these are held in by the square gasket but I see the place for the two pins to remove the sleeve. Should I leave well enough alone, machine works fine and water is clear?

You'll need to remove the brass sleeve when it's time to change the seals and piston gaskets. Orphan Espresso sells a tool for doing that. Francesco Ceccarelli thinks the old brass sleeved models are the best.

What I WOULD do for a good cup of coffee!

There are two kinds of sleeves. One allows for the screen to be removed leaving the sleeve in place. The other needs to be removed in order to remove the screen. If yours is the former than you can change the seals w/o removing the sleeve (and that's what I would do)

Thanks, I have all the seals replaced. I wasn't sure if I should bother with the sleeve. I'll leave it alone then
