I currently use the original Cafelat 'Classic' tamper/tamping stand on my 58mm machine. This stand has been discontinued.

I just picked up a Cremina and would like a tamper/tamping stand specifically made for the 49mm tamper/portafilter.

Has anyone seen any other than the LWW?

Off topic, but what year did you end up with? I recall you were looking for a used late model.

That's great to hear. I don't know of a tamping station, but thought I'd pass on what I do. I have a bottomless PF, so just use a hockey puck for a tamp pad. When I use the OEM PF with spouts, I just take the basket out and fill/tamp and then reinsert. There is no retention clip in my OEM PF. Not sure if the new ones have one or not. Hope that helps.

Ever find anything? Moving from 58mm to 49mm as well, but I'm not looking to spend another $100+ on a Lyn Weber PF holder. I emailed LW and confirmed that the 58mm is not convertible down to 49mm, so time to sell that one off and replace it.

49mmtamper.com has some ideas but I have to say I'm at a loss

I went with the LW portafilter stand. Happy with it.

Just in case you don't have a tamper yet:
Joe Frex / Conceptart from Germany have a 49mm stainless steel base with handle that fits the Olympias perfectly. You can choose from different handles.

Here are the links:
- http://www.joefrex.de/shop/tamper/unter ... -flat?c=24
- http://www.joefrex.de/shop/tamper/griff ... op-red?c=7

They probably sell to the US as well...
I use mine with an Olympia Club.

Cheers
Claus

PS.: I just found the US site:

This one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coffee-Temper-S ... SwaG9XJP7P worked out for my VAM /Caravel with similar size PF.
Between order and chaos there is espresso.

@feitz thans for that suggestion.

I have a custom wooden Thor, which fist perfect and 2 of the Olympia tampers.
Getting one made to fit the basket makes a big difference, as far as coffee up the side of the basket after tamping.

@redbone that eBay tamper station looks good.

btw yes the new machines have a spring clip in the portafilter

I happen to have that exact same tamper base. It works very well but has a flaw: the rubber bottom on mine always comes off since the stainless steel body only rests in two grooves.
