It's an old school barista, just on / off the heating power, electricity, gas and coal.
It was a profession with an aura of quality perception with no benchmarks by an organism.
It is being forgotten at the surroundings of the 1970s because the type of staff were able to could not manage the quality and regularity.
Pid atomic precision is not necessary, it is a lesson of history.
Beatiful you Lolo, best second life on you home.
bye
Andrea

As Andrea said, very common, if not the norm, that they are wired directly to the elements with no switch.

Thank you Paul. I wondered because one person had told me that it had to have a pressurestat. But I couldn't even conceptualize where it would fit, since the layout certainly appears to built entirely off a central midline point with no space given for such a thing on either side. I had worried that if I were to try to restore the piston seal and even entertain the idea of testing it out that it might prove disastrous if the lead weight system somehow failed and there was nothing else to prevent overpressure.

Do you have a free connection on the boiler ? Perhaps blocked with a plug ?

There is one connection on the boiler flange (red circle) that you could use for a pressure release valve. There even seems to be enough room for a Sirai pressurestat or at least a smaller one like a Mater.

Very cool. She might actually live and breathe again. I'm at the finish line buttoning up the last steps on my Conti Empress rebuild. After its done, I'll take another look at Lola. I'm about to ship off one of the knobs and the lever grip parts to Dave, so that I can have a nice set of ebony made up. If I decide to get it running again, I don't want to use the original knobs, since they're more brittle. They'd get saved and set aside.

Thread resurrection.

News reports of Gina Lollobrigida passing at the age of 95. Quite a life! I've been contemplating the restoration of mine, more lately. Only hurdle is finding someone who can solder and repair brass. There's one missing clip that holds the plexiglass in place that is missing on mine. I bought a beautiful plexiglass from Enrico a few years ago.
