The GS/3 dramatically resets the gold standard for performance among all espresso machines. Its performance meets and surpasses the finest high volume machines on the market today. In a tiny footprint, with water reservoir or plumb-in options, GS/3 suits high-end home use and has sufficient steam power and performance for many commercial applications including restaurants, catering, and professional offices.

As a special thank you to 2008's top contributing members, the contest has been reopened for MVPs (Most Valued Contributors). This is a designation shown beneath the number of posts in the member's profile. For example:

      Joined: May 10, 2005

      Real Name: Jane Demitasse
      Equipment: Speedster, Mazzer Robur, Aeropress
The MVP score is based on the member's consistent participation over the past year. Paradise Roasters is sponsoring the prize the MVPs will play for:

Aaron Meza of Paradise Roasters wrote:The winner will work with Paradise Roasters in creating an espresso blend designed to the winner's specifications. This first-hand look at what it takes to create an espresso blend includes one 12 oz. "first draft" bag of the custom espresso, one 12 oz. "second draft" bag of the custom espresso, and six 12 oz. "final" bags of the custom espresso.

The process will be recorded in a thread on Home-Barista. Once completed, the custom espresso will be offered for sale on http://www.paradiseroasters.com for everyone to try. Of course, the winner also receives 15% off the custom blend throughout its production run.

For those who've already played in the Wish List Gift contest, the mechanics are the same. However, knowing true MVPs enjoy a challenge, I've added a few twists to add elements of strategy. The posting rules in terms of content are unchanged (sponsor link, quoted excerpt, etc.). Below are the changes:

    • MVPs may post every 2 hours instead of the 4 hours between entries in the previous contest.
    • The goal has changed: Whichever MVP has the highest number at the bottom of their entry wins. The range is from 1 to 500.
    • IMPORTANT: Posting an entry deletes the MVP's previous entry. Thus each MVP has one and only one entry in play. They must decide before posting a new entry if they wish to "stay pat" with their current number or play again hoping for a higher one.
    • This thread will be open for new entries until Sunday, December 21, 2008 at 6:00PM EST.
Good luck and thanks again to Paradise Roasters!

Here at Paradise, there is always something new going on. We are constantly working on new espressos, tasting new origin coffees, and running experiments that are never made public.
This secrecy is going to change with Paradise Labs. Check here regularly to learn how Paradise stays on the cutting edge and for opportunities to purchase extremely limited coffee offerings. And by extrememly limited, we mean less than 10 lbs available.

          October 2008 edition

The coffee universe has expanded exponentially in recent years, thanks to specialty roasters in the vanguard of the industry who carefully source and oversee the processing of coffees in far flung locales. These companies generally put an emphasis on fine arabica beans (of which there are several distinctive varietals), fair-trade practices, and freshness. The sheer number of choices may seem bewildering, but it has also made it easier than ever to find an excellent morning cup. We sampled more than a hundred brews from around the globe; the following represent the best of the range of flavors, aromas, and body that's out there.

At the turn of the century Kentucky born Robert Lamastus started an Arabica coffee plantation on a farm located at around 5,600 ft (1 700 m) above sea level in the skirts of the Baru Volcano in Boquete, Panama. At the time Robert Lamastus processed and exported what is still today considered as one of the highest quality coffees in the world. Now, two generations later, the tradition continues.

1922 Mocha & Java Blend: Full-bodied, savory, and deep, 1922 Mocha & Java blend balances notes of dried fruit, deep chocolate, spice, and the overwhelming flavor of coffee. The mother of all blends, perhaps the quintessential coffee experience.
