Hello:

It's quite a group we have here.

I have a graduate degree in architecture.
Prone to taking things apart to find out what makes them tick ever since I can remember.
A tinkerer with some IT background, helped me get along when work was scarce.

Cheers,

CIV

DP,

Sorry it took a bit. Yeah, the Jusco coffee is pretty bad. I remember getting some JBM once and it was stale. I didn't realized that they keep it out exposed in these bins and then sell it from there. Not sure where they roast it either. I do know of one roaster on island. If you go towards Kinser and turn left right across from the Nissan dealership (there should be a Mini/BMW on your left) and drive up past the school, there's a restaurant that has a coffee shop downstairs. I don't remember the name but it's maybe 1/2 km off of 58. Anyway, they do have an impressive roaster but they leave the roasted coffee in a bin until someone purchases it. I've only tried the espresso and it should be avoided. Maybe the drip types are better. The food is excellent though. On Kokusai Doori, there are some coffee places that sell somewhat fresh stuff.

Cornell--isn't he the Rocky looking guy? If so, yes I remember him. We have a Chief Wright in our squadron right now. I'm in AMS BTW.

I work as a Human Resources manager at a bank in NY's financial district, across from the World Trade Center site. I've been helping employees figure out their benefits, and to a degree their lives, for the past two decades. I've been in HR my whole career, but worked in various industries like computer manufacturing, hotels, insurance and banking.

I'm that nice HR guy who, when you see his face, immediately reminds you of that critical health insurance question you've been meaning to ask for the last 6 months, but had no time, so you need to stop him on his way to the men's room.

The really great thing about working in NY is that within minutes from the office I can at least get myself a fix of Intelligentsia Black Cat (Blue Spoon Cafe) or Counter Culture's 11th Hour (Brazilian/Sumatra blend at Everyman Espresso). Illy is available nearby in a pinch.

Lots of fellow IT geeks here, I work in the UK for a US based multinational as a service engineer. Currently work mainly for one of our service partners who specialize in SAN, NAS and CAS...

Who needs Intel inside when you have espresso. That is really what keeps the network up.

I should get a little case badge for my laptop that says espresso inside.

Really enjoyable thread!

Worked for about 12 years as server (part-time during school years) in restaurants and inns, mostly fine dinning.
One day while at university thanks to a nice circumstance I quit university for that:

Flying is mostly during summer and in winter I do whatever I feel like and lately I've been missing a bit the food&beverage industry so last winter I've been playing full time with that 8) :

and thanks to it, I'm planning to get into coffee business but I'll keep flyin' in summer for now 'cause I still love it!
So as you can see I tend to follow my passions, Flying (RotorWing) and Coffee now

Yup, I've been retired for almost 5 years now.

In 1979 a partner and I started a business distributing dairy products to health food stores and restaurants throughout the SF Bay area (Sacto to SCruz). In 1987 my partner sold me his portion and moved to Hawaii. And in 2002 I sold the business to two of my employees. I was amazed to find that "business" could be so satisfying. It turns out that business is just like life: if you do your best; you treat people well; and you have good luck, you will have enough. Not necessarily a lot, but enough.

I loved it while I did it. And now I love not doing it. Now I play with the dogs, play with espresso machines, try to keep 1/2 acre of roses and other plants growing, deal with getting old and cranky, and try to figure out how I ever had time to live my life AND work.

Studied Mechanical Engineering, but lately it's been Air Traffic Control. The first few years with the US Air Force in cold war Berlin, while the last 20 have been with the FAA over the skies of NYC. But this is only temporary until I get my espresso/specialty beer/Italian cafe up and running.

Most of the time i am a high school student though i work up to 20 hours a week at the local University doing web design and data entry for the online components of their course (quite ironic that i happen to be currently administrating a course which my older brother is doing... makes me laugh anyway). Other than that i help out at 2 different youth programs and i build/repair computers in my spare time. Seems fitting that i love coffee, being that i drink so much of it!
