Yup, And of late I'm a lot more jittery. Just received my Vetrano a week ago, so I've been learning to use my new friend. And you just can't throw away all that good espresso. My Macap is on backorder...

Simply put, slow rain is one of the most relaxing, peaceful things for me. I just love the sight and sound of it--even when riding my motorcycle in it.

It's my initials, or at least my initials reduced to monosyllabic grunts.

cool thread.....i chose mine for its broad and ambiguous meaning. its based on a song of the same name from my favorite band, Tortoise. i think they chose it for the same reason, but possibly because there is something different going on in every speaker channel during the song, and you get the feeling that its all around you when you listen in surround sound.

if interested, check out the song here: http://www.myspace.com/tortoise (they're instrumental, so no potentially offensive lyrics or anything, just good clean post rock :)

Well the "spro" part of my username is obviously for the espresso and the "745" is the amount of weight I was deadlifting before I had to give up bodybuilding/powerlifting due to health reasons. I use this number because I loved lifting so much I knew I'd never forget it..... My old username was shadow745, but due to a little bit of attitude I was banned.....hmmmm... and went with another username. The "shadow" part of that was given to me by a friend/bodybuilder because my physique/training philosophy at the time resembled Dorian Yates, also known as The Shadow. Later!

Mine is pretty simple.

My name is Jeff. On my first day of kindegarten, i was nervous in the morning before going in. My Father said to me "go get em Jman!" just before I walked inside. Since then, thats what my family calls me for a nickname, as my fathers name is also Jeff.

Espresso is for espresso..imagine that! JmanEspresso.

Pretty boring here... I wanted to buy something (an Ascaso grinder, which I did buy) off the CG buy/sell/trade board when I realized I didn't have a name. I am a philosophy PhD student here in Syracuse, so PhilosoGeek was born in a fit of anxiety and haste...the way it should be :)

Mine's fairly simple - I needed something that was not a word, that would be unlikely to be taken wherever i go.

Trip to Genetica was a track on a rather good breaks album from the 1990s (Adam Freeland's Coastal Breaks II), which works quite well as alloneword. :)

Comes from a habit I developed when assessing beans fairly early in my coffee days... eating the things.

I'm digging this thread.
My login story is: I published a blues, soul, gospel and zydeco magazine for almost a decade. One blues man I interviewed told me I was a shot of double soul. Reminded me of a Mr. Wiggles' song, "00 Soul". (Brother had swagger in his day)!

I went with Yakster because there's three kayaks hanging in my garage. Nothing too exciting, not a whitewater shooter or anything, but I enjoy kayaking and camping with the family, and nothing makes a kayaking, camping trip better then some homeroast; noting makes an arm sore faster then a long day of kayaking followed by roasting coffee over the campfire shake, shake, shaking those beans to keep the roast even.

p.s. Yes, that's a life preserver that my avatar is wearing in the photo from one of our kayaking trips.

My name is Jon Rosenthal, and I started getting called "Jon R" in early childhood because some of my schoolmates had trouble pronouncing my name (we're talking kindergarden age here).

Back in 1996 I registered my first email account with Yahoo.com. I tried to get the username JonR but it was taken, so I tried JonR1 next and it was also taken. My third try was JonR10 and that worked.

I still use the email address JonR10-at-yahoo.com after more than a decade.
I also use it for my online usernames in forums and e-commerce sites.

When I got my first Yahoo email account there was a 12 year old kid in PA who had used up about 200 Yahoo screen names including every possible variation on Owen O'Neill. My great grandfather's name was Phaelon (or so I thought) so I chose that and still got skunked but with the 56 added (year of my birth) I finally found one that was available.

As it turns out... the correct spelling is Phelim :? but it's a bit late to change now....

I read somewhere that the members of the Goo Goo Dolls have often had second thoughts about the name of their band - but at the time they came up with the name, it seemed like a good idea.

'Address7' is a moniker I have used on ebay for a number of years, and it is now a somewhat regrettable self-perpetuating identifier, much like the Goo Goo Dolls name. Commercial success continues to elude me, however.

In 'Fletch Lives' (not the best Fletch movie, I know, but still full of great one-liners), when Fletch is in line to join the evangelical church, he is asked his address. His reply? "7".

Peppersass is the name of the original cog railway engine that hauls tourists up Mount Washington, highest peak in the Northeastern US, located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire (my local playground.) Though only 6,288 ft high, Mount Washington is a very long and steep climb, and one of the most dangerous places in the world. Almost as many have died there as on Mt. Everest. Until very recently, the highest recorded windspeed in the world was on Mount Washington (238 mph, as I recall.) One time when I was on the deck of the summit observatory, I grabbed the rail and kicked my feet up. The 90+ mph wind literally allowed me to fly. Anyway, the weather can change from sublime to deadly in a few minutes.

I have mixed feelings about the cog railway. As a climber, I would never use it. When climbing Mount Washington or other peaks on the Presidential range, you often hear the engine's whistle and see thick billows of black smoke coming from the stack. It's not exactly the most environmentally-friendly sight in the world (the summit attractions are owned by the State of New Hampshire, where the motto is "Live Free of Die", or alternately, "Live, Freeze and Die".) But "the cog" is an engineering marvel, has an amazing history (including several gruesome accidents), and has allowed many to see the world from atop a mountain they never would have been able to climb. I do, however, hate it when I reach the summit after hours of painful climbing, only to see ladies in high-heels disembarking from the train. Don't ask me about the Auto Road.

I chose the name Peppersass mostly because it's connected with a passion of mine -- been climbing the Whites for almost 40 years. But it was also because the original engine looked a little like an old-fashioned coffee boiler (it is, after all, a steam engine). Peppersass's funky appearance sort of reminded me of our efforts to tame our equally funky espresso machines. Makes for a cool-looking avatar, too. Also, it wasn't taken!

I see Nicholas hasn't posted about his login name. But even I know where shadowfax comes from. One of my favorite literary names!
