What is the HB equivalent for X, Y, and Z?

Postby ptrck2184 on Tue Mar 16, 2010 4:53 pm

Dan's tweet about finding the HB equivalent for home audio/visual products got me thinking: Is there a member-generated list of HB-like sites for other topics?

For example, Dan expressed the need for an audio/visual site, whereas I would be interested in a golf equipment/instruction site.

I suspect other members have interests in addition to coffee, a/v, golf, cars, etc. that could get the ball rolling.

Are there any member-driven forums worthy of being compared to HB or perhaps HB-lite?

I think that site is the H-B equivalent of photography.

A/V would easily go to AVS forum http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/

Cars are usually split up by models. There is a great forum for my car, http://www.rx8club.com/index.php

I would have to second the comment that http://www.avsforum.com is the H-B equivalent for audio-visual equipment. For example, I got basic setting (as starting point) for calibrating my Pioneer plasma TV. And if you want to get into the service menu, there is even thread for that. On the whole, I find avsforum.com discussions with high "signal to noise ratio."

For fine watches (i.e. Omega on up) I recommend http://www.timezone.com Their forums are even by broken down by brand name (including Patek Philippe....though my chances of owning a Patek is nil  ).

I suppose http://www.ScubaBoard.com qualifies for this list. My reasoning: tons of very specific forums on diving populated by experienced divers. At least one of these is a newbie forum, with the following description (which I found amusing):

www.scubaboard.com/forums wrote:Please note: This forum has special rules. This forum is intended to be a very friendly, "flame free zone" where divers of any skill level may ask questions about basic scuba topics without fear of being accosted. Please show respect and courtesy at all times. Remember that the inquirer is looking for answers that they can understand. This is a learning zone and consequently, any off-topic or overly harsh responses will be removed.

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/ is fantastic for audio compression, music organization, and various other in-depth audio quality discussion.
