What are you guys using for a small vacuum?

Postby SwingT on Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:19 pm

I need to get a small vacuum for the coffee bar.

First one I bought, was too large - and wouldn't store in the cabinets. It was a snap-on wet and dry with a set of mini tools. Great little vac, just too big - plus with it on the floor, had to hold my foot on the damn thing because the hose wasn't long enough to reach into a mazzer doser on the counter.

An employee was doing a nasty job with an inadequate vac, so I gave them the snap-on. They were tickled, I said just pick me up a small one.

So they got me a Dirt Devil Detailer - cute, but not a lot of suction, plus, It's a little large to stick down in a doser - doesn't seem that good picking up finely ground coffee, either.

What are you guys using that works really well?

Is there something like a really small shop vac made?

I'm looking for something in the US, and am quite comfortable ordering on-line

How 'bout this one?

It even has an included wall mount. I suppose that you could put it beneath your machine cabinet.

I love this dirt devil http://www.amazon.com/Dirt-Devil-M08245X-Power-Reach/dp/B00008V40E for the power. The head with beater unhooks for use around the house, but that is just OK. What's useful is you can also detach the hose itself for use directly or with the crevice tool. It's great for cleaning my Behmor too.

I use my regular house vacuum with a hose, but I bought an extra crevice tool which is clean and dedicated to my coffee counter. Works very well, since it's a normal sized vacuum made to clean a house. I keep the crevice attachment next to my coffee and pull the vacuum out of the closet when I need it. It would probably also depend on how close your closet was to your coffee stuff. Michael

I've been thinking about getting a little vacuum for ages. I normally clean up with the house vacuum, but it means I only usually get to it once every week at the most. It's really handy to be able to vacuum out the grinder and surface around my espresso setup, and I'd love to get something with a good hose attachment that would make cleaning up every day more feasible.

The Dirt Devil seems to have mostly one-star reviews on Amazon, though a lot of them are complaining about vacuuming uphostery. The little shop vac is pretty tempting, though I don't have wall space in the kitchen, and it might be a bit big to fit in a drawer.

One of the annoying things about the small shop vacs, besides the noise, is the short stiff hose that they come with. I bought from Sears Parts a replacement hose for an upright vac, which is very flexible.
I think I ended up with a hose for a Hoover Windtunnel 1, which was Sears part No. 43491087.
Looks like it's cheaper now than when I bought it... I think two years ago the hose cost me more than the small shop vac. I still haven't installed either, but I think it will be fairly simple to adapt the new hose, once I get a noise chamber made for the vac.

Quite powerful and relatively small 1.5 gallon (many accessories available not shown that need to bought separate)
