An interesting and sad blog article from a renowned UK Guardian journalist here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/blog/2011/nov/22/uganda-coffee-climate-change

Yes, interesting and sad... but fortunately not hopeless. Climatically, it's a complicated region, because it's between two monsoon regions, and perhaps close enough to the Sahara to be very sensitive to its dryness. The Sahara and warming are a worrisome mix. Looking at the map, I would think that Uganda might have some of the most fertile African soils. But, most tropical agricultural soils *require* lots of care. It's good that they're planting trees (leguminous trees?); just be careful that they don't steal too much moisture from the coffee. Hopefully it won't get so dry that they'll have to switch to a crop like sorghum.

Will somebody invent a replacement for oil, please? Thanks.

Thx for posting.
