I spent about 8 hours yesterday at a "World Cafe" on sustainability. Read this thread after spending about 8 hours with very, very well meaning folks. Most of them white. Academics. I'm still laughing because I include myself in the list on most points. I find it hilarious.

Chris, I am confused. I've read over the thread a few times, and I can't figure out who's actually offended. I mean, a couple of people have chimed in that they don't think it's funny--Roeland even gave a pretty good reason why that had categorically nothing to do with the racial bent of the site. No one made any attempt at suppressing or shooting anyone down. So far it's been individuals voicing their opinions, as far as I can see.

I really don't see any post on this thread that warrants the relative indignation of your comments about the PC police, etc. I think that you may have read too much into Hal's (and others') comments.

For my part, Endo, I enjoyed SWPL for a little while when it first launched. I haven't visited the site for some time, though.

Nicholas, if you're really interested, please feel free to e-mail me off these fora, as I requested.
We now return you to your regular program, "Your guide to exceptional espresso." :D
